MacArthur Story Stem Battery for Assessing Preschooler¡¯s Mental Health
Park Jin-Ah

Abstract
This study examines the MacArthur Story Stem Battery (MSSB), a play therapy instrument to assess child mental health which was developed and expanded since 1990. The MSSB investigates the internal world of preschoolers using a projective doll-play technique and is used widely in infant and child clinical research. It has demonstrated high reliability and validity as an instrument to assess young children¡¯s internal representation of parent-child relationship. This study briefly reviews development procedures and methods of administration and analysis of the MSSB and carries out a literature review of clinical studies that were conducted recently in Korea using the MSSB. Based on previous research, this study suggests how the MSSB can be effectively used for clinical studies of referred preschoolers.
